You can become healthier and happier in 2018 by creating four healthy habits.
On January 1, 2018, millions of people will resolve to lose weight. Most will choose a fad diet, or a fad product touting quick and easy weight loss results. It is human nature to reach for the easy button, even though, deep down inside, we know that it takes sustained permanent effort to transform our health, and our lives.
Never underestimate how easily we can believe what we want to believe. Especially when that belief saves us from the effort required to change ourselves.
Some will spend thousands to work with a doctor that gives them shots, and appetite suppressants, and a diet focused solely on calorie restrictions. Sure, many lose weight this way, as anyone would eating like a contestant on Survivor. But all feel miserable and tired, and most gain every bit of weight back again within 12-18 months.
Others will enter into a junkie/dealer type relationship with someone offering them a magic potion that melts the fat away with little to no effort.
The dieting industry is a 61 billion dollar industry designed for repeat customers. Admit it, you feel like a failure. You feel like you are weak and have no willpower. You don’t think you can do it, because you have tried so many times.
Have you ever thought that maybe these diets and fads are designed to keep you coming back for more?
Have you ever felt like you are living inside a dieting matrix that very few people ever escape?
Have you ever thought that you don’t want to FEEL disconnected and deprived, therefore, you stop, not because you are weak, but because you want more connection and nourishment in your life?
You are not a failure, you are a normal human being that wants to feel your best.
Nobody wants to diet. NOBODY.
Diets are about decreasing your food, your experiences, and your life. You stay home because you cannot bear the bread basket when you go out to dinner. You stay isolated because people on diets are no fun to be around, and you are no exception.
Everybody wants to be healthy. EVERYBODY.
Healthy living is about CHANGING the food you eat, and expanding your experiences, and your life.
I want to challenge you to do something different in 2018. Join me in creating healthy habits that make you feel energized and alive.
Let’s be honest, the easy button is never about becoming your best self. It is about doing the least amount of work, in the least amount of time, which is really the road to your weakest and most unfulfilled self….
I often compare the way we eat to relationships, because ultimately the relationship we have with food, is symbolic of the relationship we have with ourselves.
Having a relationship with crappy food, I am talking the Standard American Diet of highly processed foods and animal products is like having a relationship with that guy that sits around the house all day drinking beer with his hand down his pants. The guy that disrespects you. The guy who makes you feel like crap. The guy that starves you from love and life. And within this relationship, your life is one excuse after another, as to why you stay in this relationship. You become stuck, and you lose sight of who you really are.
Being on a diet is like having a relationship with a guy that makes you feel like you have to act a certain way, and look a certain way in order to get his love. There is still no respect, only attention when you get results. Your life is restricted, rigid, a bit obsessive, and everything must be done perfectly in order for you to feel worthy. You feel like he controls you, sucks your energy and steals your joy. You have very high highs when you get external validation, and low/lows when your ego is threatened. Here too, you are not connected to your true self because you are motivated more by external reward or fear of condemnation.
But you feel like it is either this strict guy, or the guy on the couch, right?
Wrong! This is the relationship most people do not realize is possible….
Having a relationship with healthy food is like being with a guy who finds you sacred. There is deep mutual respect, and you feel nourished of body, mind and soul. He makes you feel alive, and he brings out and supports the best version of you. He makes you more present, and in tune to what is truly important in life. Literally, you experience the world differently in this relationship. It gives you energy, courage and power to become everything you want to be.
Here is the truth.
Diets and products are designed to fail you. You are living in a dieting matrix. And its the effort it takes to change your life that will transform you, NOT the result.
“Everyone wants to live at the top of the mountain. But all the happiness and growth occurs while you are climbing it.” Andy Rooney
There is an enormous difference in the type of person who wants to be dropped off at the top of mountain by helicopter and the person who wants to climb that mountain herself. One is extraordinary.
Let’s say no to diets and quick fixes in 2018. Let’s make 2018 the year of our best selves by choosing to make real lasting change. Let’s spend the month of January CREATING healthy habits. Engaging in new behaviors that are proven to positively impact our minds, bodies and lives.
Here’s the deal and it is simple. Starting January 1, 2018, we will spend each week focusing on a new healthy habit.
- Week 1 – January 1 – We will focus on drinking half our weight in ounces of water each day.
- Week 2 – January 8 – Plant based eating week because everyone needs the vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, phytonutrients, and fiber that comes from plants!
- Week 3 – January 15 – We will practice intermittent fasting. 3 days- 12 hour overnight fast, 2 days- 14 hour overnight fast, and 2 days- 16 hour overnight fast.
- Week 4- Gratitude/Mindfulness week – keeping a gratitude journal and practicing 10 minutes of meditation/quieting the mind a day.
These four habits are proven to increase our health, energy, and total well-being. They are simple and effective and must have habits for a healthy lifestyle.
As your Healthy Life Coach for the month, I will guide you virtually, on a private Facebook page, through this challenge. I will provide daily information, inspiration, and support for the entire month. The group will be encouraged to share experiences, challenges, and ask questions. I will be posting at least once a day, and I can promise that this will be a very educational and enlightening experience.
I will share some recipes, my favorite vegetarian blogs. cheat sheets, a Mindset Reset eguide, and more!
My goal is to support you in creating a new foundation of healthy habits.
