For 22 years, I wanted to be healthy, but I did not want to be on a diet. Oh how little did I know.
A diet to healthy eating is like a one night stand is to making love.
One is all about the physical ego, the other is about an intimate relationship with your self.
I dieted when I hated my body. Now, I eat healthy because I want to nourish and respect my body. It is a totally different mindset and a totally different way to live.
As a certified Health & Lifestyle Coach, or as I prefer calling myself, a Healthy Life Coach, I am constantly asked the same questions from people trying to grasp what it is that I can do for them.
“Do you give me meal plans?
“Do you provide shopping lists?
“Will you tell me what to eat?”
“Do you sell meal replacement shakes?”
Meal plans, shopping lists, and shakes are everywhere. If those strategies worked permanently, this world would look very different.
- 70% of us are overweight.
- 1 in 3 women, and 1 in 2 men is predicted to develop cancer in their lifetime.
- HALF of America’s children have a chronic health condition. THAT IS ONE OUT OF EVERY TWO.
Those stats are NOT acceptable to me. Frankly, they piss me off. Because we are not helpless victims and it does not have to be this way.
Our current weight loss strategies are not designed for learning or growth, and they are based on flawed and misleading information. As a certified coach, I know that behavior change begins in the mind.
This is not about being on a diet or using willpower techniques for the rest of your life.
This is about changing the way you THINK about food and health. Because it is the way you THINK about food and health that got you into this situation.
I did not know this, and wasted 22 years of my precious life time dieting and counting stupid calories. I was stuck. I did not want to be overweight and unhealthy for the rest of my life, but I did not want to be on a diet for the rest of my life either.
I did not want to BE either of those people. I was not happy assuming the role of the chubby unhealthy girl. And I was not happy assuming the role of an obsessive, compulsive, vain, rigid calorie counting dieting freak either.
I THOUGHT it would be a constant struggle.
I THOUGHT I was not born to be thin.
I THOUGHT it would be a constant battle of willpower.
I THOUGHT I would always WANT to eat the burgers and fries, but I would have to choose the boring salad.
I THOUGHT I failed so many times that I would never succeed.
I thought, I thought, I thought. ALL the same things for 22 years, and nothing changed. Because my thoughts did not change.
It it doesn’t change you, nothing will change. DUH! It is funny (and sad) how much we overcomplicate our lives with excuses and limiting beliefs. Life really is much simpler than we make it.
When people sign up for one of my programs they understand it is a program designed for learning and growth, and this excites them.
Diets make us miserable. We stuff our faces with every last bit of junk food in anticipation for January 1, or Monday. Again, as a coach, I know that we humans want to experience pleasure and joy in our lives. Therefore, anything that makes us miserable will not last OR we will live miserably.
You know the feeling as well as I do. You know no one wants to be around you when you are counting every calorie and weighing all of your food. You know the energy you give off when you are starving, disconnected and discontent…..
Learning never exhausts the mind. Emotional and spiritual growth enlightens, inspires, and empowers us.
There is nothing more beautiful than a woman who smart, energetic, and alive. A woman who is not afraid to be different, authentic, and vulnerable. A woman who has a passion for all that life throws her way.
These are the things that we should be aspiring for, and deep down we know it. Hell, I know plenty of beautiful women with perfect figures that have reek of insecurities. If it were all about our looks and money, Hollywood would not be riddled with substance abuse, divorce, and suicide.
So, no, I will not give you anything mindless and meaningless.
I will not do the work for you.
I will not tell you it is easy.
I will not make comfort you with lies and tell you exactly what you want to hear.
I will push you from your nest every chance I get.
I will demand that you step up for yourself and your children. God help them, ESPECIALLY for the children.
I will tell you over and over again that you are powerful. And that your choices dictate your life and influence the world.
I will tell you that you have the power to change the world we live in. Which is so flipping amazing. What we eat and how we live MATTERS, it is about so much more than a flipping bikini!
I will tell you that conscious choices only happen in the present moment.
I will tell you to take responsibility for your life, because when you take responsibility you are able to respond, and you will never be a victim. I will tell you that personal responsibility is your power source.
I will tell you that the way we are living in this country, is insane.
I will tell you to rebel, be authentic, and not give a shit about what everyone else is doing because they are going in the wrong direction.
I will tell you if it were easy, everyone would be doing it.
I will tell you that the only thing you should fear is standing still. Of doing this repeat performance every year, and calling that a life.
I will tell you that it is the journey (not the result) that is your reward.
I will NOT be like everyone else, and I will not offer you what everyone else offers you.
Because I am better than that, and so are you. I can only make a difference, if I am different.
So if you want to change your life, don’t choose something designed to change your behaviors temporarily. Do something designed to change your mind permanently.

And by God stop fearing change. If you do not take the time to create the life you want for yourself, you are going to have to spend the rest of your life dealing with a life you don’t want.
Lastly, know this. If you make your decisions based in fear, limiting beliefs, or an excuses you will never change. Decisions made in inspiration, with a can do attitude, give power to the best version of you. It really is that simple.
